Busy Week in the Challenge Lab/Trip to Habitat for Humanity!

Once again our lab was hopping with activities.  The following pictures are of Kindergartners through 5th grade engaging in strategy games.

Our student council took at trip to view our service project:  Habitat for Humanity.  We learned a lot about building homes, types of job opportunities, and the value of volunteering.  We also learned that Habitat for Humanity has currently built 92 homes in Kerrville.  Habitat also helps people that are not always able to afford a regular mortgage, by allowing them to apply for a Habitat home, and part of the qualification of earning the home is they must work 450 hours of their sweat labor.  Additionally, the people that help build the homes are volunteers too.  The average age of the volunteers is 70!  The homes are very nice 3-4 bedrooms.

Student Council learning about volunteers!
Our student council will provide another lunch this spring for the Saturday volunteers that build homes at this location. We will also spend a Saturday in the near future volunteering to rake, sweep, pick up rocks. It is a inspiring to know that there are a lot of businesses in town that also volunteer and donate many products to help make the Habitat for Humanity a great organization for people that are in need of housing.  If you are interested in volunteering, call Dan Mitchell at Habitat for Humanity.
