Hansel and Gretel are Innocent! 4th Grade Fairy Tales on Trial!
After some deliberation, the jury proclaimed Hansel and Gretel innocent! The Prosecution team presented clear evidence that the children had obviously destroyed Ms. Fiona Glutzenblut's home and attempted to murder her with a peppermint chair. The witnesses, did a fine job of sharing their stories. We heard from Ms. Dove and Mr. Robin S. Hood. Mr. and Mrs. Sparrow gave their witness statement on video which was was shared in court for the jury and audience to view. The defense team left the burden of proof to the prosecution. Their witnesses, Hansel and Gretel told it like it was, and Ms. Duck helped by sharing her story. The trial was held at the Kerr County Court house. Playhouse 2000, allowed us to borrow some of their costumes to help create a feeling of a real production, and we thank them! The fourth grade classes came to the court house to watch. We also had parents, grandparents and some community members. Our jury was represented by the fifth grade (last years 4th grade fairy tale members) and they dressed as characters to represent Hansel and Gretel's peers. I am very proud of this group. They wrote the script by themselves and were motivated throughout this year to produce a great trial. They began the year by going to Daniels Elementary "law school", learning vocabulary, the court system and steps in a trial. A lot went on behind the scenes. I want to thank Bailiff Charlie, from Kerr County Courthouse for his exhausting, and successful attempts to get our video working! I would also like to thank Becky Henderson for allowing us to perform the trial at the court house. It was a great day! (Including a refreshing down pour of much needed rain, as we boarded the buses!)
