Daniels Annual Garage Sale
Daniel's Elementary will hold their annual garage sale on Saturday, November 3, 2012. This sale is organized by Elia Torres, and benefits the children of our school. We are very lucky to have a community of staff members and our parents help make this happen! Our student council will also be working shifts during the sale. If you are able to stop by and check out all the great finds, you will not be disappointed!
The sale begins @ 8:00-1:00. In the Daniels cafeteria! Hope to see you there!

Deutsch Klasse!
Students have been given a unique opportunity in the Daniels Challenge Lab to participate in a Deutsch Klasse! (German Class) Fifth grade teachers selected several students (one third grade student dropped in, and jumped in) to participate in learning german! Katie P. has volunteered to teach this group every Friday afternoon for a minimum of six weeks. She is taking a college class and one of the options for her projects is to teach younger students through her lessons, using hands on materials!
They began by introducing themselves in german and talking about money. Next week, we move on to colors and numbers! Thanks Katie!!

Preparations for Daniels Upcoming Election Connection Mock Press Conference!
Daniels Election Connection Mock Press Conference will be held on Friday November 2, 2012 in the cafeteria from 2:00-2:45. There are 6 5th grade students representing Obama, and 6 5th grade students representing Romney. Our moderator is a 5th grader. There will be 8 4th grade students performing a commercial breaks in order to share information about election issues or election information. There will be 13 3rd grade students who are the reporters asking the questions. Students have done the research for the questions and answers. They have created their ties and buttons for the event. More pictures to follow after the event!
Our goal is to create awareness of some of the special freedoms and privileges that American Citizens have- such as voting! In addition, we want our students to be informed about some of the challenging issues our country is facing, and how the candidates that are running for president feel about those issues.
I want to thank several of the moms in advance for helping with the signs, decorating the backboards for election and helping to film the event!! You ladies rock!

We will hold a school Presidential election vote on Tuesday November 6, 2012 for 2-5th grade.
We will report the results on Tuesday afternoon to the student body.
These are the pictures of the graphs that the fourth grade created based on a preliminary survey they generated asking grades 2-5, "If you could vote today, who would you vote for?" The red lines are republican Romney, and the blue lines are for President Obama. I think it is obvious how the majority of Daniels voted in this preliminary survey.
Mrs. Wrase's 1st Extension-Engineering Sail Boats!
This project was so much fun! Mrs. Wrase sent two groups of first graders to the lab. They were given a task to design a sailboat that would float given certain criteria and constraints! Each group was provided with the same materials (5 washers, bolts, styrofoam rectangular plate, felt, small warter cups, foil, wax paper, glue, popsicle sticks and paper plates.) After a lesson on sinking and floating, the group had to evaluate what items to use for their boats and how to place them on their boats. Then, the real brainstorming and creativity began!!
The students had their competition to see the outcome of their planning last Friday. Here are several pictures of the demonstration! Columbus would be proud! BTW, both boats floated successfully!!

Once Again, Daniels Students Demonstrate their Giving!
I am amazed at the many cans and boxes of food that came pouring into to our school to help fill the pantry at Christian Assistant Ministry. Next week they will hold their quarterly food fair! So our timing is perfect! Way to Go Mustangs!!

Christian Assistant Ministry Service Project!
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,
We need your help! We are currently collecting cans for Christian Assistant Ministry (C.A.M.) and want to help fill their pantry! Please help by donating a canned good by dropping it by Daniels Elementary or by having your student bring a can to school. If every child brings one can we will have 639 to donate!
It is through the joy of giving that we receive the most! So please ask a parent or grandparent if you can bring a can in to donate! The last day to bring cans in will be Friday October 26, 2012!
Thanks in advance!
Mrs. Mitchell :)
